Understanding the value of mentors didn’t click for me until later in life. Now I don’t know where I would be without their wisdom and guidance.
“The best mentors can help us define and express our inner calling.”
This quote from a TED Talk given by Anthony Tjan, CEO and Managing Partner at The Cue Ball Group, speaks the tremendous impact the right mentors have in our lives. In her piece for TED, Julia Fawal outlines Tjal’s 5 types of mentors you want in your corner.
💡 The master of craft. This person is iconic in his/her field.
💡 The champion of your cause. This person will help talk you up to others.
💡 The copilot. This person will talk you through issues and is always there for you.
💡 The anchor. This person is your confidante and sounding board.
💡 The reverse mentor. This person learns from the person they’re mentoring.
Tjan also stresses that mentorship isn’t a one-way street. It’s a relationship between humans and not a transaction.
